Intelligent Embedded Systems

Embedded systems are now co-existing with every day human life. From mobile phones, coffee maker and music players to sophisticated lab tools like spectrum analyzer, MRI scanner etc., almost every human activities are connected in some way with embedded devices. Some of them are so complex that an ordinary person can't operate without special training. And there are such systems, which can operate themselves without any human intervention or operator. Space exploration rovers and deep space probes are good examples. Every devices are getting more and more autonomous and self aware. A good embedded software can tolerate with loss of non critical hardware, or some software functionalities. With the emergence of wired and wireless networking, the dimension is extending from a small device situating on a table to make its presence around the globe. So we could think the device is virtually present every where, and that's the age of ubiquitous or pervasive computing. That's why we could use the term "co-existing" not mere "working".
The day is not so distant, these machines will co-operate with living beings.
